Barcelona

Barcelona is a vibrant city.  Known for its outstanding architecture, art, food and culture, there is something for everyone in Barcelona.  Come early or stay late and take advantage of this remarkable city.

Shopping

Barcelona, the second largest city in Spain and its largest Mediterranean port, has been known since it began as a “nation of shopkeepers.” There are small specialty shops everywhere in the city that provide a wide array of goods with personal service.

World famous for their leather goods, Spanish leather is a bargain when compared to Italian leathers of similar quality. Shoes, coats and jackets can be obtained at shops throughout the city.

Barcelona is developing a reputation as the latest high fashion center in Europe. Many young aspiring designers are featured in the trendy shops in La Ribera, El Ravel and Gracia as well as in the Vincon emporium.

Objets d’art and crafts range from the ceramics of Catalonia’s Costa Brava to reproductions of the Modernista tiles. And of course, Spain is the home of the espadrille shoe, which can be found in the Barri Gotic stores in old town Barcelona.

Many of the best and most interesting shops and streetside cafes can be found on Las Ramblas, which has been described as the most beautiful streets in the world. This combination of five streets leading to the port is a short distance from our conference hotel.

Arts

The leader in modernista architecture, Antoni Gaudi I Cornet has his most noted structures in Barcelona – many are open to the public.  Take the opportunity to visit La Sagrada Familia (still in construction), Casa Mila, and Park Guell to name a few.

Or visit the modern art museums including Museu Picasso, housing one of the largest collections from the “blue” period. Or stop by Fundacio Joan Miro and experience the unique works of this progressive artist. And the Fundacio Tapies houses the Catalan painter’s most impressive works.

Cuisine

Regardless of your cultural tastes – the highlight of Barcelona are the tapas!  Tapas restaurants offer you the opportunity to create your own menu and experience the best and freshest ingredients.  The best restaurants are crowded, so book ahead or expect a leisurely wait at the bar prior to your delightful meal.  The tourist bureau continually reviews restaurants and publishes a top 10 list!

Barcelona, the number one pick by our European membership, will provide you with not only an exceptional professional conference but also an exceptional city to meet and share with your peers.
